Become a Certified Ombudsman Volunteer
Our volunteers change lives the moment they walk into a facility. Eyes light up, smiles appear, and residents get visits from someone who’s there just for them — sometimes for the first time in weeks. You’ll meet incredible people with amazing stories and wisdom that deserves to be heard.
What You’ll Do
- Visit assigned facilities regularly to check in with residents
- Listen to concerns and help resolve problems
- Be an advocate when residents need someone in their corner
- Build real relationships with people who need them most
What We Need From You
- Age – 18 or older
- Heart – Genuine care for older adults and people with disabilities
- Availability – 10-20 hours per month for 2 years
- Clean slate – No long-term care employment in the past 12 months
- Tech comfort – Basic computer skills
- Commitment – Pass a background check and complete training
We’ll Train You
- 36 hours of training – mix of classroom, online, and field visits
- Mentorship period – work with an experienced supervisor until you’re ready
- State certification – you’ll be officially certified as a Long-Term Care Ombudsman Representative
- Ongoing support – you’re never on your own
- Continuing education – 12 hours annually to keep your certification current
